This is so simple, yet so tasty, it knocks people’s socks off! It
lasts for days, is great for snacks too. Some versions use
cottage cheese instead of cream cheese. The authentic version
is with goat cheese. I don’t like it that way.
Bring to room temperature2 8 oz bricks of cream cheese
1 stick margarine or butter (can use two sticks if you like it richer)
1 tsp. mustard
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 or 2 cloves of garlic,finely chopped
1/4 tsp caraway seeds or ground caraway (optional)
If you have a spare coffee grinder, use it to grind the caraway
seeds. These add a wonderful flavor without the annoying
paprika to taste,–enough paprika to create a pleasant, rich
Combine all ingredients with a fork until well blended.
Serve immediately on sliced bread. Chill any remainder and
serve again! Serving suggestion:Place caviar or a sliced
anchovy or small sardine on top of each slice.
