We regret to inform you that our traditional St. Stephen’s Day celebration will not be held this year. The event as scheduled since last year would have been in conflict with another much awaited event to be held in Los Angeles, an outstanding Kodaly Zoltan commemorative concert, in which many of our favored artists, musicians and soloists will be performing, and to which several Orange County Hungarians have already indicated a desire to attend.
However, we offer as a substitute, at one our newly established film events, the epic, award winning film, Honfoglalas, chronicling the early Hungarians’ conquest of the Carpathian Basin, as well as a short commemoration of St. Stephen’s Day, on August 17. We trust that we can still revere and commemorate St. Stephen even on a smaller scale and also find the experience almost as enriching as our larger scale commemorations. More information will be forthcoming about this event.
Save the date, August 25, 2018!
St. Stephen’s Day Celebration 2016
Orange County Hungarians celebrated St. Stephen’s Day at the Mission Basilica San Juan Capistranon on August 27, 2016. Father Gaspar Ailer of Dunabogdany Hungary, assisted by Father Theodore Smith of St. Michael’s Abbey, said the mass. We thank organist Ron Schneider of St. Stephen’s Church in Los Angeles for again coming to add the beautiful music. A planned picnic was canceled, but many of the attendees at the mass formed a spontaneous lunch group and we proceeded to the Cedar Creek Inn for lunch.
